Student comments are reflective of students’ perceptions and satisfaction. They may be helpful for formative purposes but they are grossly inadequate for any summative purposes. Student comments are also used to express hostility towards instructors and for outright harassment. However, the inappropriate and harassing comments violate requirements for harassment free workplace. The proposals on how to deal with the student comments (e.g., OCUFA Report) include (1) provide the comments only to instructors and (2) provide mechanism whereby students are held accountable for inappropriate and harassing comments.
