Calling “Mayday!”: Turn the Tide for Workers’ Rights
This Friday, May 1st, as we mark International Workers’ Day, members are encouraged to stand up for workers’ rights on social media. The provincial government’s passing of Bill 2 was a profound display of overreach—a heavy-handed legislative maneuver that actively undermined the democratic processes and fundamental rights of workers in Alberta. When the constitutional bargaining rights of one group are overridden so casually, it signals a sinking ship for all of our labor protections, and it is up to us to help turn it around. We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. As we prepare to enter our own next bargaining cycle in 2028, we will need a membership that informed, engaged, and willing to defend our rights. Remind this government—and each other—that we are not alone, the fight is far from over, and we are fully prepared to stand up for a better tomorrow.
